| Mission: | Access Arts Austin works to encourage and enable persons with disabilities to have full access to arts programs and facilities and participate fully in the cultural and artistic life of Texas. |
| Program or Service: | We provide trained Audio Describers to theatres at select performances so that patrons who are blind or have low vision can experience the sets, costumes, and action on stage.
We provide information about services of interpreters at selected performances to assist persons who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
We publish and distribute a quarterly newsletter with information about accessible performance and arts events.
We provide arts organizations with technical assistance and consultations on how to develop Accessibility Plans for their facilities.
We offer awareness training so that arts organizations can meet the different needs of people with disabilities. |
| Outcomes: | Access Arts Austin serves approximately 4,500 individuals on an annual basis. More people with disabilities are able to access cultural arts activities including, performances, exhibits and classes. A number of theatre and museum facilities have enhanced their accessibility accommodations because of the work our task forces have done in educating staff and volunteers. |
