Charity Description
Mission: The mission of the American Lung Association of Texas is to fight lung disease and promote lung health for all Americans.
Program or Service: Teens Against Tobacco Use (T.A.T.U) - this program has used a "kids helping kids" approach to teach over 44,000 Texas children about the dangers of tobacco use.

Not-On-Tobacco (N.O.T) - this is our teen smoking cessation program that has helped over 200 area teenagers break their cigarette addictions.

Research - The American Lung Association is the leading non-governmental funder of lung and asthma research. The research we fund will someday soon lead us to a world without asthma and lung disease!

Airways for Schools - This program is designed to train school health officials about the dangers of asthma and how to treat students who have this disease.

Asthma Camps - These camps are funded and held by the American Lung Association to provide a summer camp experience for asthmatic children who otherwise would not be able to attend a camp.
Outcomes: Our Teens Against Tobacco Use program has had phenomenal success. More than 5200 high school students were trained as peer teachers, who subsequently used a kids helping kids approach to teach the dangers of tobacco use to nearly 44,000 fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students at 299 schools.

Our Not-On-Tobacco teen smoking cessation program has been completed by over 200 area students. Over 60% of all teens who have attended this program have quit smoking altogether. We would love the opportunity to provide this life-saving program to 100,000's of children.

OurAirways For Schools program has taught over 650 school nurses, coaches, and health professionals to present this program to their students. In 115 in-school training sessions, over 14,000 children have received this potentially life-saving health education. This program has also made school administrators and teachers more aware of how to help children with asthma and other chronic lung diseases.

Asthma Camps - our camps have allowed 473 asthmatic children to enjoy swimming, horseback riding, meeting new friends, and daily asthma education. We hope to be able to provide the summer camp experience to 100's more children, and we want no child to ever be turned away due to lack of funds on their part.

The population served by the American Lung Association of Texas includes all Texans, in every county. With our state headquarters in Asustin, and our seven branch offices in San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, McAllen, El Paso, Fort Worth and Austin, we are able to serve a wide vaiety of diverse communities.
Children and the elderly benefit greatly from our clean air advocacy and anti-smoking programs. At risk populations are also well served by our services.
