| Mission: | To have a positive and significant impact on the mental health of the Central Texas Community by providing quality services in mental health through programs in prevention, intervention and education to those who cannot otherwise afford these services. |
| Program or Service: | Since 1980, Capital Area Mental Health Center (CAMHC) has been providing low-cost counseling to residents of the Austin area who could not otherwise afford this service. CAMHC was established by the Capital Area Psychological Association in response to the need for affordable psychotherapy for uninsured and underserved people. The first mental health clinic in the United States to be clinically staffed solely by volunteers, it remains one of only a handful today. |
| Outcomes: | Capital Area Mental Health Center serves individual adults, couples families, and children. We also offer ongoing psychotherapy groups. CAMHC serves all populations utilizing a large therapist pool with experience in all areas. CAMHC therapists complete more than 8,000 sessions per year.
