Charity Description
Mission: Children’s Hospital of Austin was founded in 1988 to provide quality, compassionate medical care to Central Texas children. Offering advanced medical treatments previously unavailable in this area of the state, Children’s is the first and only hospital in Central Texas specifically dedicated and designed to care for the special needs of sick and injured children in a family-oriented setting. All Central Texas pediatricians practice at Children’s Hospital, and the facility serves as the regional referral center for highly specialized services such as trauma care, cancer care and cardiology services.

In 1995, Children’s Hospital became a member of the SETON Healthcare Network, giving the hospital the many advantages of being part of Austin’s largest healthcare system. In keeping with SETON’s mission to care for and improve the health of those we serve, with a special concern for the sick and the poor, Children’s Hospital cares for every child in need, regardless of families’ ability to pay for care.
Program or Service: Children’s Hospital’s services include a 82-bed Inpatient Unit, Children’s Surgery Center, Dell Children’s Imaging Center, Children’s Regional Heart Program, a Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, Specialty Care Center for multi-disciplinary treatments, Children’s Emergency Center, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Child Life program.

Not only does Children’s Hospital of Austin provide quality medical care to the children of Central Texas in need, it also works proactively with other community organizations to promote health and well being before children become seriously ill. Some of our partnerships include the Student Health Services Team, which provides school nursing services for the Austin Independent School District, and the Skippy Express Mobile Health Team, which operates a mobile clinic to provide basic medical services and prescription medication in schools in low-income neighborhoods.

More than 65,000 patients are treated each year at Children’s Hospital of Austin. Community partnership programs provide care and health education to 78,000 children annually. The ethnicity of Children’s Hospital patients reflects the cultural diversity of Central Texas.

Children’s Hospital Foundation of Austin serves as the fund-raising arm of the Children’s Hospital of Austin. Currently, Children’s Hospital Foundation is engaged in a $20 million hospital expansion and endowment campaign, called the Campaign for Children.
Outcomes: The Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) awarded Children’s Hospital of Austin and SETON Accreditation with Commendation, the highest standard awarded to organizations for exemplary performance overall. Children’s Hospital of Austin was also recently named one of the nation’s Top 100 Hospitals by HCIA-Mercer HCPCA, a health information company and the largest human-resource consulting firm worldwide. As part of the SETON Healthcare Network, Children's Hospital of Austin engages in an ongoing continuous quality improvement process.
Events Hosted: Children's Hospital Foundation of Austin hosts an annual gala in January, a golf tournament in September, as well as numerous other events throughout the year to benefit Children's Hospital of Austin.
