| Mission: | Our mission is to provide love, comfort, hope and ongoing support to those who are adjusting to life after death of a loved one, regardless of the circumstances; and to educate the general public regarding the issues of grief and out concerns of the bereaved. |
| Program or Service: | For the Love of Christi is a nonprofit, nondenominational grief support program. We are available to individuals in grief, regardless of the circumstances or relationship. There are no fees for our services.
We offer 14 regularly scheduled support group meetings each month for both adults and children. We work with a broad cross-section of all ethnic, economic and social groups, as well as individuals with a range of disabilities. We serve adults, as well as children ages 7-17 who are in grief through our "Kids Who Kare" program.
We provide educational programs for businesses, criminal justice entities, civic and service organizations, schools, universities, churches and other community groups.
Other services include: "Warmline" telephone support service; one-on-one support; a lending library; workshop and retreats; grief education packets; crime victim services and educational programs; grief training and presentations; and annual remembrance events. |
| Outcomes: | We live in a death-denying society. The failure to adequately address problems resulting from the death of a loved one can be devastating. Job loss, alcoholism and drug addictions, marital strife, and depression can be attributed to the inability to recognize and work through the emotions associated with grieving.
We serve more than 4,000 individuals and families in Central Texas each year. Our purpose is to help people recover from their loss, to "process" their emotions in a manner which will allow them to eventually live healthier and happier lives. As there are no fees for our programs, we are accessible to more persons in need.
We work to provide education to the public on the issues of grief and how to "help" those suffering from a loss. We present programs and workshops for many professionals who are in contact with those in grief, incuding those with area police and sheriff departments, victims' services, school counselors, and others. We also work with the corporate sector to help when an employee has experienced a loss. We provide loss and anger management group sessions for local schools in response to crisis situations. Our goal is to aid those in need to learn how to cope with their loss and strengthen the mental health of our community.

| Events Hosted: | We hold an annual Holiday Remembrance Service in December for those who have lost loved ones; this year, we will hold a dedication ceremony for a new grief support center at 2306 Hancock Drive, on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at 11:00 am.
Other regular events include monthly dinner meetings; family outings for our "Kids Who Kare" group each month; annual retreats for both adults and children; a Memorial Tree Planting Dedication; and an annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet. |
