| Mission: | To advance the educational, social, cultural, legal and economic well-being of women through a broader awareness of their role in society, business and the family; committed to promoting the participation of Hispanic women in public, corporate, and civic life. |
| Program or Service: | Mentorship; Workshops on Health, Leadership Development, & Business; Provide scholarships for students in high school, college, technical training, professional development opportunities; Network opportunities are always encouraged and available. |
| Outcomes: | Thru a collaboration with the Lone Star Girl Scout Council, members of the HWNT serve as Mentors to teen parents enrolled in Travis High and Johnston. In the Spring 2000, 4 of these young women graduated from high school and were preparing to enroll in college. Thru collaboration with the Kappa Delta Chi Sorority at the University of Texas in Austin, the HWNT raised funds for a full day of college preparation activities for girls enrolled in grades 6th thru 9th. Three of the 50 girls who attended were awarded scholarships to enroll in college upon graduation from high school. Cultural events are hosted to commemorate Mothers' Day and Las Posadas en Navidad (Christmas Carols). A scholarship banquet and silent auction is hosted annually to increase funds for distribution. |
