| Charity Description |
| Mission: | To promote excellence and encourage students to reach the highest levels of achievement we will require challenging curricula at all levels, recognize academic accomplishments and provide support through collaboration with students, staff, parents and community. |
| Program or Service: | The Academic Advociates will promote academic excellence for all LISD students, offer scholarships and grants to students and staff and share information through special guest speakers at monthly meetings and through our online mail service to our membership. |
| Outcomes: | The Academic Advocates have a membership of over 200 parents, students, faculty and community members. We are currently holding our second annual Membership Drive and hope to double our membership this semester.
Leander ISD is comprised of approximately 16,210 students living in the communities of Leander, Cedar Park, Jonestown, Austin and Volente and includes portions of Travis and Williamson Counties.
In our first year we were able to provide a grant to the Dyslexic Coordinator/English Instructor at Leander High School to attend a conference on Dyslexia.
Our Middle School Campus Director, working with parents, faculty and staff of the Cedar Park Middle School Site-Based Campus Improvement Committee created the "Cedar Park Middle School Parent Survival Guide", which outlines some of the middle school's logistics, the core curriculum, extracurricular activies, academic support systems, student organizations and clubs, and supplies many resources for parents and students.
Our High School Campus Director, working with the administration of Cedar Park High School, instituted the first "Wall of Honor" which included an 8 x 10 photo of each student that made the all-A Honor Roll during the fall 2000 semester. Eventually we would like to see "Walls of Honor" at all LISD campuses. |
| Events Hosted: | Guest speakers are a part of our regular meeting agenda. Past speakers have included the LISD Superintendent of Schools, State UIL Academic Director, a representative of the University of Texas' Charles A. Dana Center, the Gifted and Talented Director for Region XII, the Directer of the district's International Baccalaureate Program and several other administrative staff from the district. |
