| Mission: | To provide continuing education, community volunteerism, cultural enrichment, and community involvement programs for people with developmental disabilities. The LW College programs and curriculum have been developed to educate and empower people to make a positive impact on the community. All LW College activites have been designed to facilitate meaningful, productive, and beneficial community participation for people with developmental disabilities. |
| Program or Service: | Program descriptions:
Personal Growth Program - physical exercise, meal preparation, reading, writing, stress management, computer, photography, conflict resolution.
Community Discovery Program - Students visit interesting places like historical and cultural sites, government offices, public services, and universities.
LW Volunteers Program - Students contribute time and work at various Austin locations including Capital Area Food Bank, El Buen Samaritano, Austin Nature Center, Zilker Botanical Gardens, Austin Public Library, and Austin Zoo.
Fine Arts Exploration - Students are introduced to multiple realms of art and performance culminating in a student recital or class project. |
| Outcomes: | LW Volunteers performed over 2000 hours of volunteer work in of these hours were donated at city-funded locations.
In 2000 LW enrolled 30 students total in fall, spring and summer sessions. |
