| Mission: | The Mental Health Association in Texas is a statewide organization that works to promote mental health, prevent mental illnesses through research and education, and improve care and treatment for people with mental illnesses. |
| Program or Service: | MHAT is a private, non-profit organization. The association's activities involve advocacy on behalf of people with mental illnesses, information and referral services, and direct services to clients through our grant-funded programs. |
| Outcomes: | Parents as Teachers-The association provides training and assistance to over 120 award winning PAT early childhood programs in Texas. AmeriCorps Children's Program-MHAT coordinates an AmeriCorps program across Texas, with over 300 members having served in 36 communities. Childrens Insurance-MHAT provided expert testimony for mental health benefits as part of the new Children's Health Insurance Plan. Acces to Medications-MHAT with a broad coalition, secured a major increase in funding for new generation medications for consumers with mental illnesses. |
