Charity Description
Mission: Project Transitions is a non profit organization dedicated to serving people with AIDS by providing hospice, housing and support in a compassionate and caring environment.
Program or Service: Incorporated in 1988, Project Transitions is Austin and Central Texas’ only independent non-profit agency providing supportive housing and residential care for persons living with HIV/AIDS. Project Transitions offers services regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, or ability to pay. Supportive housing is provided at ROOSEVELT GARDENS, a 22-unit apartment complex where individuals and families with HIV/AIDS receive affordable housing, meals, transportation and social service support from on-site staff. Hospice and respite care is provided at DOUG'S HOUSE, in a homelike setting, where people needing temporary 24 hour support or those in the final stages of AIDS receive physical, emotional, and spiritual care from a professional nursing staff and trained volunteers. Independent low-income housing is offered at HIGHLAND TERRACE, an eight-unit complex in central Austin.

Project Transitions also operates TOP DRAWER THRIFT STORE located at 4902 Burnet Road. Proceeds from the sale of donated merchandise benefit all Project Transitions’ programs and services. Each month vouchers for store merchandise are distributed to those with HIV/AIDS by local HIV service agencies.
