Charity Description
Mission: SAR Team 8 provides benevolent, volunteer services of Search and Rescue, Disaster Relief, and Emergency Preparedness education and mitigation for the citizens of Texas.
Program or Service: SAR Team 8 has three primary areas of focus. Each of these includes
youth programs.  These are:

  1. Search and Rescue

    • We respond to missing person incidents, such as a lost child or
      alzheimer's patient.
    • We also respond to requests for assistance from the federal or
state government for missing aircraft, etc.
    • We respond to incidents involving Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs),
which became legal in 2003. Individuals can carry these and if in
distress can activate them. We respond with teams with directional
finding equipment and GPS to locate and assist the victim(s).
    • We conduct Ground. Aerial and Underwater Search and Rescue.

  2. Disaster Relief

    • We respond to disasters in various roles, as specific
      organizational teams.
    • In local disasters, we work with the Red Cross and local
entities, like the Sheriff or a CERT Team.
    • In state-level disasters, we work with the Red Cross,
local entities, and State of Texas agencies.
    • In presidential declared disasters, we work with the Red
Cross, local entities, State of Texas agencies and FEMA.
    • We conduct:

      • Shelter Operations
      • Ground-based Damage Assessment
      • Aerial Damage Assessment
      • Air supply and transport

  3. Community Services

    • As citizens, we feel it is our responsibility to support our
      communities.
    • We help with disaster mitigation, to better prepare our
communities and individuals citizens and families for dealing with
      the inevitable disasters that occur.
    • We also provide volunteers to support community events, like
Challenge Air, Special Olympics and Dripping Springs Founder's
      Days.
    • We offer our expertise in training other community organizations,
such as Scout Troops, schools, etc. in emergency preparedness,
      safety and other items.

Outcomes: Benevolent results. Primary areas of involvement include the nine counties of Central Texas. We provide needed services to assist the community in times of need. We are generally deployed to emergencies such as missing persons, or disasters such as flood, tornado, or hurricanes.

We provide our membership with training to accommodate these needs.

SAR Team 8 believes that young people have a role and a desire to help
their communities by responding in times of need. Consequently, SAR Team
8 sponsors Venture Crew 512 through the BSA. A Venture Crew is a Scouting
affiliated unit that allows young people to participate in our missions.
Our youth members go through the same training program as adults, although
they do not carry out some of the more hazardous aspects of missions. This teaches volunteerism, leadership, and valuable emergency response skills.

Events Hosted: We hold formal trainings on a quarterly basis, with exercises scheduled in between. We often participate in multi-agency exercises with various emergency response organizations.
