| Charity Description |
| Mission: | To provide deserving children in Austin and surrounding areas with programs which give them opportunities for personal development, the skills necessary to succeed in school and life, and the hope for a better future. |
| Program or Service: | Founded in 1913, the Austin Young Men’s Business League (YMBL) is a non-profit, community service organization. In 1928, the YMBL established Sunshine Camp at Zilker Park as a month-long fresh-air retreat for impoverished children suffering from tuberculosis. After the introduction of Tuberculosis inoculations, the YMBL Sunshine Camp at Zilker Park began addressing the needs of healthy children from the ages seven to eleven with week long, over-night camping sessions. Today, the YMBL Sunshine Camp accommodates 700 children each year with five programs designed to address social concerns including violence, educational deficiencies, poverty, disparity, family disintegration, and drug addiction while providing children with assistance throughout their development into adulthood to ensure the success of the Sunshine Camp Mission statement. As with all of the YMBL Sunshine Camp programs, the YMBL volunteers provide all of the fundraising to each of the following programs.
· YMBL Sunshine Camp at Zilker Park
· YMBL Sunshine Camp at Lake Travis
· YMBL Sunrise Leadership
· YMBL Junior Counselors
· YMBL Sunshine Scholarships
YMBL Sunshine Camp at Zilker Park
The YMBL Sunshine Camp Zilker facility serves children from ages seven to eleven and provides these children with a seven-day, overnight camping experience. Daily activities include group games and ropes courses to build communication and teamwork skills through focusing on personal motivation and achieving individual goals.
YMBL Sunshine Camp at Lake Travis
In 1988, the YMBL Sunshine Camps expanded with the Sunshine Camps at Lake Travis to meet the growing needs of adolescents from ages twelve to fifteen with a week long, overnight camping experience. The Lake Travis facility builds on the concepts offered at the Zilker Park facility to children familiar with the Sunshine Camp program and provides new campers with advanced outdoor activities and ropes courses. These activities include social skills building such as trust, communication, and teamwork through the use of rope courses and experiential activities. In addition, the YMBL Sunshine Camp at Lake Travis facility strives to cultivate self-awareness and instill self-confidence. The Sunshine Camp Lake Travis facility also provides adolescents with the opportunities and support to reach beyond comfort levels and realize their full potential through counselor and peer relationships, team building, and sophisticated high-ropes course activities.
YMBL Sunshine Leadership
Recognizing the need for continued support throughout the year, the YMBL Sunshine Camps supplements the Sunshine Camps aid to adolescents with the Sunrise Leadership program. The Sunrise program brings approximately 30 Sunshine Camp attendees together for regular study skills and test-taking workshops, course-based tutorials with accredited teachers and mentored professionals, along with setting personal goals focused on achieving long-term education and training. In addition, the Sunshine Leadership participants engage in a variety of community service projects and receive assistance in locating summer jobs.
YMBL Junior Counselors
Approximately thirty experienced campers from the Sunrise Leadership program become hired as Junior Counselors (JCs) for the Sunshine Camps. Junior Counselors provide assistance with both Zilker Park and Lake Travis facilities during sessions and incorporate professional and civic concepts such as job-skill training and mentorship to campers.
YMBL Sunshine Scholarships
YMBL Sunshine Camps offers camp participants scholarships for college and professional training. The Sunshine Scholarships are offered as both performance incentives to Sunshine Campers who successfully progress through the camp programs, and as rewards for excelling under difficult circumstances. YMBL Sunshine Camp participants have received the following scholarships.
· The Golfsmith-Sunshine Camp Scholarship - A four-year college scholarship awarded to high school seniors who have excelled as Junior Counselors.
· The Golfsmith-Sunshine Trust Scholarship - A four-year college scholarship awarded to selected fifth graders from Ortega and Widen Elementary schools that distinguish themselves in the Sunshine Camps programs.
· The Pena-Sunshine Trust Scholarship - Sunshine Camps Sixth graders are eligible for this scholarship that is awarded upon completion of the Leadership program and graduation from high school.
· The Mary and Ronney Reynolds-Sunshine Scholarships - For post high school trade and technical education; awarded upon high school graduation.

| Outcomes: | Sunshine Camps programs are designed to help Austin area students who are most at-risk of dropping out of school without completing their secondary education. · 95% are classified “at-risk” by AISD
· 90% are minorities
· 97% are from households with annual income of less than $19,500.00
· 70% are from single-parent households
