| Charity Description |
| Mission: | The mission of GENaustin is to help adolescent girls develop leadership skills and maintain healthy self-esteem by educating young women, their parents and teachers, and others who touch their lives. We work toward this goal by facilitating programs that empower girls to be true to themselves and advocating for positive change for girls in the community and culture. |
| Program or Service: | GENaustin provides the community with:
1. more than 50 adolescent girl-focused speaker presentations per year,
2. teacher and volunteer training,
3. girls’ support groups,
4. parent-daughter workshops and retreats,
5. annual public events featuring nationally-acclaimed speakers,
6. a lending library of girl-positive videotapes and other resources
7. a web site - www.ophelia.org, which features an online psychologist available to answer confidential questions from teens and parents.

| Outcomes: | Our Speaker Series is presented at 13 schools and community centers in the Central Texas area. In 1998-1999 more than 1500 girls, parents, teachers, counselors and other supporters of girls attended our programs. In the 1999-2000 series, attendance was up over 20%. |
| Events Hosted: | "Sugar and Spice: Is Everything So Nice," a presentation by Drs. Lyn Mikel Borwn of Colby college and Jessica Henderson Daniel of Harvard Medical School. Co-sponsored with the Austin Women's Psychotherapy Project and the UT Center for Women's Studies.
Book signing with Lisa Gottlieb, author of "Stick Figure," on November 18, co-sponsored and hosted at the Jewish Community Center.
"The Truth About Love," presented by Dr. Pat Love on March 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Women & Their Work Gallery. Dr. Love will share research and sound advice to teens on guidelines for making love last forever. Dr. Love is a nationally-acclaimed psychologist and author of "Getting The Love You Want." She founded the Austin Family Institute in 1986. |
