| Mission: | The Austin CROP WALK for the Hungry is part of the community education and fund raising endeavors of Church World Service/CROP. CWS/CROP seeks to raise funds and awareness around needs and issues concerning emergency relief, hunger, poverty, self help development, refugee assistance and education/advocacy. |
| Program or Service: | The Austin CROP WALK for the Hungry is the largest family-oriented interfaith event in Austin. Walkers recruit sponsors (donors) to help raise funds to feed hungry persons/families. |
| Outcomes: | 25% of funds raised are returned to local hunger fighting agencies, food pantries, soup kitches, and advocacy groups. 2000 recipients are: Capital Area Food Bank, Austin Community Gardens, Sustainable Food Center, Austin Metropolitan Ministries Refugee Program, Bread for the World, Center for Public Policy Priority, RESULTS, and feeding programs at Austin Baptist Chapel, Central East Austin Community Organization, El Buen Samaritano, Manos de Cristo, Montopolis Friendship Center, St. Julia's Catholci Church, St. Louis Catholic Church, South Austin Assistance Ministry, Trinity United Methodist Church. The remainder of funds are shared by Church World Service to fund its emergency disaster relief, hunger relief, self help development, refugee assistance and education/advocacy work in more than 80 nations worldwide. |
