| Mission: | Hospice Austin is a nonprofit, community-based organization providing comprehensive hospice care to patients and families in Central Texas who are facing terminal illness. We exist to relieve physical, emotional and spiritual pain so that life can be experienced as fully and hopefully as possible. We provide emotional and spiritual support for hospice families and others in our community as they heal during bereavement. |
| Program or Service: | Hospice Austin offers a full range of health care services such as medical and nursing care, spiritual and emotional support, social work, personal care, special therapies, volunteer and bereavement services. Care is provided in the patient’s home, with a family member assuming primary responsibility for the needs of the patient, assisted by the hospice team. There are times when caring for a loved one at home is simply not possible. When symptoms cannot be managed at home, or when families are having difficulty dealing with an in-home death, Hospice Austin's Christopher House provides care in a warm, home-like setting. Our inpatient hospice offers the comfort of home while still providing round-the-clock, expert medical care. We also provide hospice services to nursing home residents, with the hospice team assisting the nursing home staff to keep the patient comfortable and provide psychosocial and spiritual support. |

We help people live the last part of life with dignity, comfort and peace while also caring for the needs of loved ones. Hospice Austin helps families focus on what is important during this time. Those who choose Hospice Austin have made the decision--along with their doctors and families--to shift direction from cure to comfort. Quality of life becomes the primary focus. Many of our patients have endured months or years of unpleasant medical treatment and do not want to spend the last part of their lives in a hospital, hooked up to machines. When given the choice, people prefer to be in familiar surroundings, alert, free of pain and with those they love. Hospice Austin makes that possible with expert, compassionate care and understanding.

| Events Hosted: | Hospice Austin hosts two major fundraising events each year. In the fall, the Hospice Austin Golf Classic offers an opportunity to play golf, have fun and support a great cause. In the spring, the Hospice Austin Gala and Senior Presentation provides an opportunity for families to recognize their graduating seniors, and for the seniors to learn about hospice care, while raising funds and awareness for the organization. |
